On May 15, 2013, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) released a notice informing covered federal contractors that they must begin using the new EEO 2006-2010 American Community Survey (ACS) Tabulation Data (EEO 2006-2010 ACS Tabulation) in the creation of their Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs) that commence on or after January 1, 2014.
The data was released by the US Census Bureau on November 29, 2012. Contractors may start using the new data immediately; however they are not required to until January 1, 2014. The notice can be found at: http://www.dol.gov/ofccp/OFCCPNews/Census_EEO_Tab_508c.pdf. We began using the new data in the preparation of AAPs that commenced on and after January 1, 2013.
It is important to note that the new data uses new four character census codes as opposed to the three character codes used in the Census 2000 EEO Special EEO Tabulation. The composition of many of the geographic areas is also different from geographic areas used in the Census 2000 files. See the downloads page on our website for a number of useful tools for working with the new data. In addition, it is important to note that the new data is not from the 2010 Census, but rather from a tabulation of five years of American Community Surveys (2006-2010).
